A Night in India

A Night in India

Today, it was declared (between Charlie and myself) that A Night in India was our MOST FREQUENTED restaurant/eatery IN BRISBANE.

This is quite astounding. You have probably noticed by now that we eat out a fair bit. It so happens that our food cravings tend towards Asian (Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean being the regular) or 'ethnic' which is a term I use to broadly cover anything that's heavy in spices (Thai, Indian, Turkish).

Indian food is constantly on our minds... or in our stomachs... or whatever.

Ages ago, as a kid, I was already into food but although I quite liked Indian food, I couldn't stomach more than a little bit and I wouldn't be able to eat it more than once every 1/2 a year. Nowadays, it's quite a different story. I find that I can even crave curry if I've had it the previous day.

A Night in India is our go to Indian restaurant. To be honest, I actually tried to go somewhere different today but due to 3 coincidentally unfortunate incidents, we ended up at our regular Indian food hang out. First, an Indian restaurant I found in the Northside agreed to deliver to us in Mount Ommaney but on second call, they mentioned a $15 fee. Next, we were going to head to a Indian restaurant near our house but in the last moment, realized it was closed on Mondays. The same happened when we drove out to another place in Kenmore (also closed on Mondays).

And... we were off to Toowong once again.

I've had multiple take-away and dine-in experiences in A Night in India. Between these trips, Charlie and I have sampled pretty much every single curry... that's right... shocking isn't it.

Chili prawn entree - fresh prawns cooked with capsicum, chilies served on a bed of rice

Chicken saag - a healthy spinach curry from North India

Goat mughlai - tangy, sweet sauce cooked in date and tamarind

The standard of curry is consistently good but my level of enjoyment depends on how well I selected (as with most curries). Everyone has different tastes so there's not much point in critiquing. Generally, the curries are thick and flavorsome - served lovely and hot. The meat (whatever you chose) is always tender and plentiful.

Butter paneer - mild creamy tomato and ground almond gravy

I haven't had many vegetable curries but we've chosen the paneer on several occasions and it's quite nice too!

Our normal dinner at A Night in India involves 2 curries, a naan (or 2) and their complimentary rice.

Naan bread mmm... I love it

Service is speedy and friendly although sometimes the place seems overstaffed. On many nights, the restaurant is packed to the brim. A new branch has opened up in Carindale but I've yet to try it. I've grown to trust the name though so if I'm in the East and desperate for curry, I'll be happy to give them a go.

  1. There's a nice indian place in Sunnybank - Mezzaban on mains road. Their indian pizza is excellent too! :)
