In what could only be described as a fit of very temporary life motivation, I thought it would be a great idea to take advantage of the peak summer weather and head to the coast. I picked Burleigh heads for its hiking trail and figured that even on a weekend, it should be less busy than Surfer's. Oh how wrong I was.
We went as a small group via two vehicles and navigated through tremendous traffic pains. Car number 2 was involved in a slight vehicular incident. None of us could find parking and this added another half hour or so to the journey. We ended up at our destination 3hrs past the original speculated time.
Morning dramas over, we still managed to have a nice walk along the hiking trail. I started to get hungry. Lunch became increasingly high in priority.
Garthritis suggested we try Burleigh Heads Hotel. We initially thought there were no tables available because all of the ones outside had "reserved" signs. Turns out these were simply reserved for dining patrons and since we were planning to eat there that was fine.
The menu comprises of slightly upmarket pub fare (no burgers or sandwiches), plus a grill section. The prices are higher end considering the casual environment.
We ordered drinks at the bar (beers for the boys and Coke for me) and returned inside to place our food orders.
Burleigh chicken parmigiana
Marc and Knobbles ordered the chicken parmigiana. Garthritis chose the prawn pasta. I went for a vegetarian stack.

Our food didn't take too long to arrive which is good considering how busy the place was. Food was as expected from a popular pub destination. Serving sizes were huge and the food was simple but fairly tasty.

I can't speak for the others (Marc was reluctant to share even one chip) but my vegetarian stack was satisfactory. The haloumi gave it some substance and I was definitely full afterwards.
Burleigh Heads Hotel is a safe and predictable option for a generous feed near the water. There's nothing overly exciting or experimental on the menu but their pub classics are executed well. Prices are a bit high for my liking but I suppose you're paying for location.
